Wine Cellars and Producers

Beira-Mar Wine cellar

Image

The village of Azenhas do Mar had some of the oldest private wine cellars of the so called Colares Wine. Of these, those belonging to Luís Augusto and Manuel José Collares are known who, as far back as 1848, made and sold their own wine.

In 1899, João António and Hermegildo Bernardino da Silva who, for local history, became known as the Chitas family, bought some of these wine cellars and established the Collares Chitas company.

In 1900, António Bernardino da Silva Chitas creates the Beira Mar Wine cellar which, to this day, still sells Colares Wine.
