Sintra Festival
The Sintra Music Festival had its origin in 1957, under the name “Jornadas Musicais de Sintra” (Sintra Musical Days), an initiative organized by the City Council and with the essential participation of Olga Maria Nicolis di Robilant Alvares Pereira de Melo, Marquess of Cadaval, who devoted herself to music and to stimulating artistic and cultural activities.
The Marquess Olga Cadaval, name by which she became known, helped put Sintra in the international music scene, bringing renowned international artists to the festival.
In 1988, three festival cycles were created with separate programmes and calendars: the musical cycle, the "Ballet Nights" in Seteais and the historical recreation cycle with the "Nights of Queluz” show, which took place between 1988 and 1993 in the gardens of the National Palace of Queluz.
The Sintra Festival, already in its 55 edition, is a historic milestone of the Sintra musical tradition which, under the sign of its usual sophistication, becomes more intense and international while maintaining the programme’s quality, always with the participation of the most renowned Portuguese and international performers.

Aura Festival
The AURA festival is all about the Art of Light in the town of Sintra. The event is free and takes place at night, designed for a convivial and party atmosphere in the historic centre, dedicated to experiencing atmospheres through artistic installations that use light as a means of expression.
Light as a matter, as a medium and as a metaphor, light which allies itself with the ancestral fascination that Sintra exerts on those who choose it, as a destination or by circumstance. Artistic events in symbolic places transform the night and the memories, creating a light path in Sintra's Cultural Landscape.
Created and produced by Creatividade Cósmica, AURA was awarded the 2017-2018 “remarkable festival” seal by the EFFE European Association (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe) for its artistic commitment, innovative approach, community involvement and European and international commitment.
